Congratulations HOSA Student - Chris Bishop!
Last week, Chris Bishop and Dustin Lyles, along with their sponsor Martha Giddens, attended the Texas State Health Occupations Students of America’s Leadership conference in Houston, Texas. They both were competitors in the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Issues Exam after winning at the area competition in February hosted by Richardson ISD.
Chris’s performance on the test was outstanding and earned the right to compete in Orlando, Florida at the National Convention this June. In addition to competition, he will be able to attend a leadership academy that will enable him to transition easier into college and the world of work.
Congratulations to Chris for being the first student from Hughes Springs ISD to attend competition at this level in HOSA. When you see him, please offer him a congratulations and good luck!

Physics Human-Powered Vehicle Race 2010
Mrs. Alison Preuniger's Physics class competed in a Human-Powered Vehicle Race on Tuesday, April 13th. The objective of the project is to design and build a human powered vehicle. This gives the students experience with applied physics problems.
Each six weeks during the year they have had to design and build something that had a particular function and follows guidelines that she gives them (size, materials used, budget, etc).
The human powered vehicle is their final, ultimate, full size project of the year. Most of their class work involves learning terms and using mathematical formulas. The projects allow them to apply their physics knowledge to a “real” problem.
The students did a great job - check out the pictures!!!!

4th and 1 Football Camp at NTCC
I wanted to share with you an event Northeast Texas Community College is hosting this summer. It’s a football camp, the first of its kind in this area, for current high school sophomore athletes designed to provide much more than just football skills training. 4th and 1, created by a current NFL coach and former Mount Pleasant High School graduate, will also focus on academic and professional development such as test-taking strategies for the SAT/ACT as well as how to create a resume and show proper etiquette in a variety of settings.
4th and 1 is looking for underrepresented athletes with a minimum B average in core high school curriculum. If you personally know of a student who meets the requirements for this camp, please direct the student to the camp’s website at www.4thand1.org. There, they will find detailed information about the camp as well as the online application which is due electronically by May 15. There is no cost to campers selected for this week-long summer program set for July 12-16, 2010.
